IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Therapy

WHAT IS IPL?

IPL (also called ‘photo-rejuvenation’ or ‘photo-facial’) treatments are powered by Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to safely and effectively fade common signs of premature ageing, including sun spots, discolouration, and visible veins.

Photo-facial treatments effectively target pigment under the skin’s surface to reduce the appearance of discolouration. The treatment also works on vascular marks (distended blood vessels often caused by UV exposure), such as spider veins and port wine stains.

HOW IT WORKS?

The Intense Pulsed Light is absorbed by colour particles which are present in blood and in melanin. The IPL also treats the propioni-bacterium in acne and protein present in cells which produce collagen. Pigmentation marks slowly come to the skin’s surface and are shed naturally. Vascular lesions dissipate into the lymphatic system for excretion, just as bruises do. Fine lines and wrinkles are softened and may virtually disappear. Collagen & elastin production increases.

IPL FAQs

What does the treatment feel like?

The IPL treatment feels like a light snap or flick on the surface of the skin.

If I have a treatment on my face, can I put makeup on straight after?

We would advise not to wear any makeup for the following 12-24 hours. However, ensure to wear SPF immediately after the treatment.

What is the aftercare for IPL?

You should avoid hot baths, massages, or any treatment that requires direct contact with the skin for the first 2 days after your treatment. Also avoid tanning for at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your treatment, and wear sunscreen.
